The making of your candles and any other additional products is the first step. Once the offers are created and available, you need to start selling.

Failing to plan is planning to fail. There is a time and a place for marketing / business strategy. But after the plan is in place, take action on the plan.

Here are 7 ways to improve your candle sales today. These are strategies that you can take action on and implement immediately.

  1. Publish Content That Adds Value To Your Customer

Creating and then posting value-add content on your website or social media pages is a free way to make more candle sales. For a potential customer to buy from you, they first need to know, like, and trust you. Publishing quality content is a very effective way to bond with your customers.

In your content, you want to inform, educate, and/or entertain your prospect. You can write a post informing about the various types of candles available with the pros and cons of each. You can create another post on why some candles are dangerous and harmful to the environment or even the users health.

These posts can be in the form of text, image, audio, video or all of the above. Have fun with content creation. At the end of each post, always provide a call to action. This call to action could mean directing viewers to your store to purchase a product. It could also mean asking your content consumers to share the post, or follow you on social media.

  2. Start A Referral Program

When people purchase a product they like, often they tell all their friends and family about the product. As a business owner you want to incentivize your customers to share your products with others.

Give your customers a reward for referring new customers. This could mean receiving a discount on the next purchase, or maybe even a free product of every new customer referred.
Every business is different so you create your own referral plan based on your business and personal preferences. Just keep in mind that word-of-mouth is the strongest form of marketing. How much more so if your customers get rewarded for sharing how awesome your candles are?

  3. Follow Up With Your Customers

When someone purchases something from your business, the hardest part is over. It is much easier to get a person to buy from you again than it is to get that person to buy from you for the first time.

The money is in the follow-up. When a new customer buys from you, get their email address. Build an email list of existing customers. You can then email these customers whenever you want.

Ask the customers via email if they are satisfied with their purchase. If they are, ask them if they would be willing to leave a review for your business. You can offer a discount for people that post a review.

If a customer is unhappy with their purchase, ask them why. This information is quality feedback that you can use to enhance your business. Genuine concern for your customers’ satisfaction goes a long way.

You can also use this email list to follow up with new products or special deals and offers. These people reading your emails have already purchased from you and more than likely will do so again.

  4. Host A Contest / Giveaway

Contests and giveaways are a great way to grow your audience and collect email addresses to build your list.

There are many ways you can run a contest or giveaway. You can post on social media that you are doing a free giveaway of various products. In order to enter the giveaway the contestant has to input their email address and follow your social media accounts.

A contest idea could be that contestants share a photo of them using your product on Facebook or Instagram. The user then has to tag your business account in the post, and the best photo wins a prize.

  5. Attend Local Community Events

Most local communities have different markets, events, craft shows, etc., that your business can attend. This is a great way to showcase your product in a physical location and spread awareness of your business.

Sometimes you will make a lot of sales at these events. But it’s also okay if you don’t. Most people need multiple interactions with your business before they make a purchase. Physical connection at a local event is a very strong and effective way to make that first interaction with potential customers who will then buy from you at a later time.

  6. Run Paid, Targeted Advertising

Most of the strategies given in this article are completely free. This is a paid alternative that can rapidly generate sales today.

You can target highly qualified people using social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Google and Youtube. Often for as little as 5 dollars a day, you can run an ad to potential customers that have been known to purchase products similar to yours and meet the exact criteria of your target audience.

Facebook is generally the easiest ad platform to start on, and is fairly inexpensive. You can have an add up and running today. Not only could the advertisement generate instant sales, it also brings more awareness to your brand.

  7. Get Your Story Told By Local News Agencies

Local newspapers and news stations are always in demand for a good story. If you can get your business featured on TV, the Internet, and/or in the newspaper, that is free publicity as well as social proof and authority.

Most of these news companies have request forms for civilians to submit a news idea. Make your business story sound interesting and you will likely get messaged by a reporter.

If you implement any one of these strategies in your candle making business, you will see results. You can try any of these tactics today. Don’t burn yourself out trying to do everything at once. Pick one strategy that you think will work well for your business, and take massive action.

  1. Please send me a catalog of your products, I have not done much in the candle business, and it is hard to compete with China. I have not figured out how to lower my prices to compete with China.

    1. Unfortunately we do not have a print catalog. All of our products can be found on the site. Sorry could not have been more assistance.

    2. Hand made candles done properly should not be competing against China product. You need to highlight items like hand poured, high quality components and made in the US. If done properly your candles should be superior to those coming in from overseas.
